Intergenerational Creativity for Bicester Community Hospital Over the summer holidays Oxford Health Charity has supported Bumble Creative (a Bicester based Community Interest Company), to run a six week inter-generational Creative Health project at Bicester Community Hospital, alongside Creative Minds (an integrative, participant led project for young people). The workshop's which were part of Oxford Health Arts Partnership's summer arts programme, used a variety of accessible and fun creative activities, including games, crafting, storytelling, and keepsake makes for the patients and young people, facilitated by professional artist, Nicolette Glashan. Each session was designed to encourage positive conversations including gardens, nature and favourite meals to cook! This is engaging and stimulating for patients It helps staff to build therapeutic relationships as a group This is a great social activity because it really brings the ward together, its inclusive for patients, staff from all disciplines, students and relatives Staff Comments The workshops helped to bridge the generation gap by allowing young individuals to connect with older patients through shared artistic activities and to gain valuable experience and a deeper understanding of the importance of community and empathy. The sessions were well attended with 33 patients, 14 staff, 4 visitors and 18 young people attending over the six weeks. As well as group sessions in the day room, the young people also visited those who were less keen to leave their rooms to create a collaborative artwork for the ward. I think it's fun, I'm enjoying it! Very nice, gets you out of your room and gives you something to do, something creative, it makes you feel useful It's very nice just everyone doing something together I like speaking to all the different ages in the room Patient Comments The project has created a nurturing space where every participant feels valued and inspired. This is fun, you get to meet different people that you wouldn't get to meet Comment from young person Manage Cookie Preferences
