Every year, as a Trust we mark Black History Month in October to celebrate the contributions and achievements of our diverse communities, but this year it feels very different and more important than ever that we stand together.  The Trust's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team have put together an impressive programme of events running throughout the month.

This year, Oxford Health Charity are proud to lend support, by funding a number of events which will feature key experts sharing their knowledge and wisdom on race equality. The sessions are aimed to raise awareness, provoke thinking and essentially, lead to take action. All sessions are open to Oxford Health staff.

All this was possible thanks to NHS Charities Together whom for a portion of the grant awarded to Oxford Health Charity, were seeking to support BAME communities who have been disproportionately impacted by COVID.

Our Head of Inclusion, Mo Patel explained "This Black History Month, we will be making our own history at Oxford Health, because we will be doing something we have never done before. Everyday, there will be a live event to take part in, or a recommended activity to engage in. We are very grateful to Oxford Health Charity for their support, which enables us to extend our plans by inviting experts to set us on the path to achieving and realising our vision for true race equality for everyone.”

Oxford Health staff are encouraged to book events on the Trust Intranet.  In addition to the expert speakers,  there will be case studies, conversation circles and a new training session.  There will also be all-staff open events, led by individuals who will share their personal journeys.
