The 'What Makes Didcot Brilliant' project (funded through The National Lottery Community Fund) has got underway with workshops at Didcot Community Hospital led by artist Dionne Freeman.  The focus has been working with collage and asking the questions:

'where would you like to go?' and 'what makes Didcot brilliant?'

The patients used collage photography (recycling old calendars from our Thriving with Nature project during the pandemic) and paint to create pop up artwork that can be freestanding next to their bedsides.

Brightening up the ward and creating beautiful conversation starters!

The team and patients really appreciated the opportunity to engage with the project with one member of staff noticing "It is so nice to see everyone with a smile on their face. They have loved doing this plus they are all staying together in the day room for lunch. This is a nice social outcome for them"

Patients themselves and a visitor to the ward also commented:

“I’ve enjoyed looking at the photos and thinking of something else”

“I’ve not done anything like this before”

“I’m so proud of this”

“it’s so nice to move from bedside and be somewhere else"

We are excited to see what the next parts of the project look like and how the community, patients and NHS staff are able to get involved.
