Do you know what the chances are of the UK having a white Christmas or how many Christmas trees are in Buckingham Palace? Can you remember the names of the Grinch’s dog or Scrooge’s ‘ghostly’ business partner in Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol? Can you recall which film features the song, ‘Walking in the Air’?

These were just some of the questions that had attendees puzzled during the quiz at the charity-funded, festive event run by the PALS team on Phoenix Ward last week!

Laura Lewis-Robinson (the PALS Service Lead) and Charlotte Arnold (Patient Experience & Complaints Coordinator) hosted two hours of afternoon fun where, as well as taking part in a quiz, patients and staff enjoyed opportunities to decorate biscuits with a festive theme as well as to indulge in hot chocolates with cream (plus festive-shaped marshmallows!) and a variety of other, tasty seasonal snacks.

The joyful atmosphere was enhanced further by the festive background music – as well as the option to come dressed in a ‘seasonal jumper’ – and, for the lucky winner of the quiz, a chocolate truffle prize!

The PALS team held this event as a way of bringing some festive fun to the ward, helping to enhance patient experience while also bringing patients and staff together in a more relaxed environment.

Afterwards, Charlotte commented:

“Patients were very grateful and thankful…they all seemed to have a good time and were in a very festive mood!”

Charlotte went on to thank Oxford Health Charity for being so helpful and engaging during the funding request process and noted that, without charity support, the PALS team would be unable to facilitate these types of events.

The Oxford Health Charity team are delighted to have been able to support such a successful, festive event that has clearly enhanced patient experiences on Phoenix Ward – and we’d also like the quiz answers, particularly to find out what our chances are of getting snow this year?! 😊
