We are proud to be supporting Oxford Health Arts Partnership's new project with Sound Resource
The project has been sharing the uplifting power of music with Abingdon and Witney community hospitals, through Moving Music Concerts. This initiative is aimed at providing a glimpse into the wonderful world of music through fun, inclusive and participatory sessions, and were led by soprano singer, Hannah Davey and pianist, Chris Davey, introducing a fun mix of old showtime hits and familiar classical pieces.

Moving Music Concerts, which combine performance with sing-along songs, have been running in the community since 2007, currently at Radley College, near Abingdon. The open-access concerts, principally but not exclusively for people with dementia and their carers, create a warm, friendly, spacious and safe environment for people to enjoy music, joining in as they choose, and to connect with other people experiencing memory loss, other life limiting conditions or loneliness. Family and professional carers are also encouraged to be part of the audience.

Comments from patients

I loved it, it’s helped me remember lots of things.

Thank you, please come again!

This was a good afternoon; I have really enjoyed it.

Comments from staff

It was great to see the patients enjoying themselves and singing along to the music.

It was brilliant! We love having musicians visit the ward.

It was so moving to see one of our patients really respond to the music, it brought back lots of memories for him and he was really in the moment during the concert.

The evidence of outcomes from the concerts includes improved mood and reduced anxiety levels among patients, as well as increased social interaction and a sense of community within the hospital ward. At Witney this was the first-time concerts had been held in the day room post COVID.

A recent OHAP evaluation report also found that participants emotions increased by 224% after leaving an arts session, (including music), in direct comparison to their emotions upon arrival.
